The competition in the daily necessities market ultimately boils down to the subtleties of user experience. These details are almost entirely determined by the final state of the mold surface.

Surface Texture Transfer:

The matte, leather-like, geometric patterns, or high-gloss finishes on an item's surface are not post-processing but a direct mirror image of the mold's surface treatment. The desired textures are created on the mold steel using techniques such as etching, EDM, polishing, or laser engraving. When plastic is injected under high pressure, these microstructures are replicated. The precision and consistency of the mold surface processing directly determine the product's appearance, texture, and quality.

Minimization of Parting Lines and Gate Marks:

The parting line is the interface between the two closed parts of the mold, and the gate is the entrance for plastic into the cavity. While the marks they leave on the product are difficult to completely eliminate, they can be minimized through mold design. For example, parting lines can be designed at the edges or inconspicuous areas of the product; point gates or submarine gates can be used, allowing them to automatically cut off during demolding, leaving only tiny, inconspicuous marks. These designs require additional mold structures and more complex processing, but they enhance the overall look and comfort of the product.

Hidden reinforcement of structural strength:

To ensure strength while reducing weight (saving materials), everyday consumer goods are often designed with reinforcing ribs. The thickness, height, and draft angle of these ribs require precise calculations. The corresponding narrow and deep grooves on the mold present challenges in terms of steel strength, polishing, and the filling and demolding of plastic. A successful mold design ensures that the reinforcing ribs are effective without causing appearance defects such as shrinkage marks.
